2025 Assembly of Delegates Peer-to-Peer Mentorship Discussion Topic Proposal Form

Individual/Group submitting proposal, Chapter (if applicable): Ariana Will, Delegate, WA Chapter

Date Submitted: 5/14/2025

Proposed Discussion Topic: How can AMTA revitalize it’s mentorship program for massage therapists?

Learn about our current program here: AMTA’s Mentoring Program

Summary Rationale: Many massage therapists, especially those newly licensed, face challenges transitioning from education into practice. There is a growing interest across the profession in having access to experienced, vetted peers who can provide mentorship and guidance. While AMTA has amazing resources for Career Development, the current Mentoring Program could use some revitalization. By promoting and fostering a peer-to-peer mentorship initiative, AMTA can help bridge the gap between school and practice, encourage ethical standards, support career longevity, and promote professional community.

The AMTA-supported mentorship model could also create opportunities for continuing education credits, increasing value for both mentors and mentees. Mentorship strengthens the massage therapy field by enhancing practitioner confidence, reducing isolation, and improving practice standards. Engaging in this discussion may surface innovative ways for AMTA to support professional development and member retention in a meaningful, scalable way.

List up to two questions you’d like to pose for discussion by the AOD:

1. What would a successful, AMTA-supported peer-to-peer mentorship program look like across different chapters or regions?

2. In what ways could mentorship relationships be structured to support professional development and potentially qualify for CE credits?

Is there any action that you feel AMTA should consider taking regarding this proposal? If so, what? Yes. AMTA should consider revitalizing the current mentorship program framework that includes vetting mentors, matching processes and guidelines that allow the experience to count toward continuing education when appropriate.

What do you want to accomplish with this discussion? To gather feedback and ideas from delegates that can inform the revamping of a structured, AMTA-supported mentorship program that is accessible, sustainable, and beneficial to both new and experienced massage therapists.
