President’s Address:
Lisa Thanked our vendors and spoke about focus and how we are branching out to massage therapists who are not AMTA members, Athletic trainers and Aestheticians. Simplify and realigning the chapter was the theme. Lisa spoke about us streamlining volunteering, making it a lot easier for people to get involved. She spoke about the 5 second rule. Any time that you have an idea of something good, within 5 seconds your brain will persuade you to stop because we have two gears autopilot and manual. Our brains shut us down in 5 seconds and if we just move through that and move out of the comfort zone and take small actions along the way (like volunteering) we will eventually do the thing we thought we couldn’t.

Speakers:
Ana Garcia Executive Director of The Massachusetts Board of Registration of Massage Therapy. The role of the Board is to protect the public. They are also there to answer questions about scope of practice. She went over frequently asked questions. Monthly BOD meetings. Reviewed rule making and policies. Looked at how complaint process flow goes. Working on going to ePlace - where practitioners can process everything on-line. Went over Board Contacts.
Mark Molloy-Chapter Lobbyist (Lynch Associates): He works with Anne Lynch and Kim Sullivan of Lynch Associates.
5 issues they have been working on:
Regulations through the Board of Registration for Massage Therapy.
Governor said that all licensing needed to be streamlined. The DPL had two listening sessions.
Things that might change: 8 hour exemption on establishment license. Hours will stay at 650/year for schooling. Addressing local and state licensing requirements. Technical clean ups will be made as well. Dual use of room for Aestheticians and Massage Therapist rule will be reversed.
DPL and the Governor's office is looking into regulating a bodywork license.
They are continuing to be on top of everything that is happening legislatively. Did a plug on getting involved in the chapter and getting to know state and local representatives.
