Q. Why does continuing education matter to the massage therapy profession?

A. Successful completion of a massage therapy program or any other health care profession implies a baseline understanding of materials necessary for safe entry onto the career path and journey. However, what differentiates each practitioner and allows them to expand their knowledge and skills, is their choice of and participation in continuing education. Through continuing education, each practitioner deepens their knowledge and can improve the effectiveness of their practice. While some may choose to broaden their knowledge, others may choose to specialize. However, everyone should continue to strengthen and refresh their basics, such as functional anatomy and palpation skills, as these are the foundation of all other theories and practices.
