Q. What or who inspired you to teach? Do you have a massage hero? This may include someone who inspired you, instructed you, or perhaps even a recipient who may have taught you through “experiential education”.

A. I can't name anyone in particular who has inspired me to teach. However, observing other teachers such as Eric Beard made me realize how much fun and engaging teaching can be. The ones who inspire me most to teach are the recipients (i.e. patients, students, workshop attendees, etc.) who share their knowledge and thirst for more. When teaching martial arts, I enjoy teaching children because of their abundance of potential. Amongst healthcare professionals, their presence in my workshops shows their passion in their profession and their strong desire to improve themselves and their clients.

Sophia Chan will be instructing Soma Systems at the IDEA conference. Soma System® is an integrative self-bodywork practice based on myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and mindfulness meditation. Sophia received her Bachelor in Athletic Training and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Boston University in addition to a Master in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the New England School of Acupuncture. Sophia is an avid martial artist with over 14 years of experience.
