MILESTONE: Forty Years an AMTA Member

Greg Hurd, Government Relations Chair

At the National Conventions, a session is held to show recognition to members who have a significant anniversary of AMTA membership and also recognition to the Chapter Meritorious Award recipients.

I bring this up in this report because I was recognized for being an AMTA member for 40 years. I've been practicing as a massage therapist for 42 years. It has been a fantastic career blending hands-on experience with working at Bancroft School of Massage Therapy for over 30 years as an instructor and as a massage therapist.

The fact that we can work with people and help them improve their lives is amazing. One of my very favorite parts about being a massage therapist is that the learning is never ending; there is always something new to learn.

The AMTA has been key to bringing education to massage therapists for all the years I have been a member. The AMTA, throughout the years, offers such a variety of ways of becoming involved in massage therapy, including state chapter events, committees and volunteer opportunities. I have had the great fortune of volunteering with the chapter in many roles — chapter president, GR chair, delegate, chapter newsletter, continuing education, and more. My involvement has helped me to travel around the country — Denver, Dallas, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Albuquerque, Phoenix, San Diego, Las Vegas, and more. All these conventions and conferences have provided opportunities to learn, actively participate in the House and Assembly of Delegates, and volunteer for state and national committees.
