President's Message
November 2019

Winter is coming soon! Perspective becomes your reality. Do you see winter as beautiful? Do you look forward to skiing, ice skating and snowshoeing? Are you dreading shoveling and driving in snow and ice? Perhaps you agree to all.

Your thoughts and experiences create who you are and what you do.

Your AMTA-MA Chapter sees winter as a time to create a new budget for our fiscal year. We see it as a time to create a 2020 with clear vision. (I hope you can see the joke there – 2020 vision! 😊). We have a class planned for you for Sunday, December 8th – yes it’s not quite winter but it’ll give you lots to work on in the winter as you improve your myofascial skills. We will also have a Chapter lunch meeting (with free lunch of course!) on that Sunday. It’s a great way to catch up with you in person. Please bring your questions and concerns! You can register for that class or just the meeting by clicking here.

Our budget meeting is in February and our pre-budget meeting is in December. As we have mentioned before, our focus is always on our members. How will our budget help our members? That’s the question we always ask ourselves. If it doesn’t help YOU, we just won’t do it!

During the winter, we will have our online elections. This year, you will be voting for:

  • President
  • Board Member
  • Secretary

Keep an eye on our chapter emails so you can see how you can apply for one of these positions and then later, how to vote.

My 4 years as President will end in March. I have so enjoyed being your Chapter President. I have learned a lot and have worked with a great team. It has been a pleasure getting to know National AMTA also. They have been a great support to our Chapter and therefore to all of you.

In our past 4 years we have maintained low-cost continuing education (which is one of the primary benefits of you being a member), ongoing Chapter meetings, kept a close watch on issues happening on the state level with regards to massage therapists, and have been a resource for you. We have maintained our membership at around 3000 members, which is great!

We recently held our Chapter Advancement Initiative training with representatives from the National AMTA. It was so helpful as we reviewed the role of our Chapter on many levels. They also helped us to come up with even more ideas to better communicate and more effectively work with our members. We will have more on that as we develop more on that! 😊

I do plan to stay working with our Government Relations/Law & Legislation Committee. Speaking of that, what is the latest on the Bodywork bill? After a hearing was held, it was clear that the bill needs to be rewritten. Along with others, the Attorney General’s office may be working on a rewrite. As the AMTA, we are looking out for you massage therapists. We will keep you all updated (on our website and in future communications emails) when we have some news.

As always, feel free to reach out to us with any questions, concerns, or comments!

With that, I wish you all the very best.

Thank you,
Greg
